A little while before my wife, Mary and I moved to John Knox Village, I was having a weekly Friday lunch with two business friends and I mentioned that we were contemplating moving to the Village. Immediately I was asked, “Are you sure you
are ready for that?” I thought about this for a moment and answered, “John Knox Village is not just an address, it is a solution, and peace of mind for our advancing age.” Then he said “You have always been very active; can you slow down to the pace of a retirement home?” I replied, “Just because I’m retiring from business doesn’t mean I’ll be ready for the proverbial rocking chair!” We reside at John Knox Village, but live for fishing trips to Alaska and hunting on our lease in Willacy County plus
we ride the John Knox Village bus to concerts and musicals right here in the
Valley. And we enjoy peace of mind living in a gated community with security
personnel on the grounds.
You know sooner or later you may have to make a decision about future
healthcare or somebody will have to make it for you. I’m glad we were able to make this decision ourselves and early enough so we both could qualify medically.
Additionally, let me say that we do not look forward to making use of the Assisted Living or the Medical Center, but we take comfort in knowing that it will be there for us if we need it. And we won’t be paying the extra big fees to get that service. Living at John Knox Village has brought us lots of new friends, so we had a large room
and covered patio added that would give us more space to entertain our new ‘family’. With so many things to do, I simply wouldn’t have time to work now!
